Galahad formed in Dorset, England, as seven-piece band including Stu
& Roy. (Go here to find out how the band
got its name!)
1985-87
Galahad gig extensively in Dorset area combining original material with
covers by the likes of Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, Marillion
and U2.
1987 July
'Dreaming From The Inside/The Opiate' limited edition (500 copies) single
released.
1987 August
'One Knight at Mr C's' limited edition live cassette released.
1987 - 1988
Gigged extensively in UK, sometimes supporting other luminaries such
as IQ, Pendragon and Haze.
1988 December
Stuart auditioned for Marillion following the departure of Fish.
1989 April
'In A Moment of Madness' mini cassette album released.
1989 August
Five track session recorded for local Radio Station 2CR as well as interviews
at Radio Solent.
1990 - 1991
Songs recorded for first album at local studio 'Room With A View'. Still
gigging constantly.
1991 January
Debut Gig at the London 'Marquee'. Various distribution deals struck
at MIDEM in Cannes, France.
1991 February
European live debut in Paris in front of fans who'd travelled from all
over Europe.
1991 April
'The Automaton' from the forthcoming debut CD album 'Nothing
Is Written' won the Rock War competition on the Radio One Friday
Rock Show, with the highest number of votes ever achieved by any band.
The prize being a Radio One session recorded at the BBC's Maida Vale
studios to be broadcast later in the year.
1991 June
Official release of 'Nothing Is Written'
at the Bournemouth International Centre.
1991 September
Special guests to Magnum at Poole Arts Centre .
1991 October
30-minute interview on Tommy Vance Rock Show, including tracks played
from 'NIW'.
1992 January
A compilation cassette of early recordings 'Other Crimes and Misdemeanours'
released.
1992 July
'Nothing Is Written' released in Japan & SE Asia through Pony Canyon,
complete with biography & lyrics in Japanese, containing an extra track
'There Must Be A Way'.
1992 Aug-Sept
First proper European tour, including a Marillion fan club concert in
Germany and a gig at the World famous Paradiso Club in Amsterdam.
1992 December
First Whitchurch Christmas gig which was recorded and later released
as a cassette entitled. 'Galahad's Christmas Lecture'
1993 April
3-track EPCD released on Voiceprint Records, thus ensuring national
UK distribution for Galahad for the first time.
1993 May
'In A Moment of Complete Madness' released
on CD containing 3 extra tracks, 'Painted Lady', 'Ghost of Durtal' and
'Welcome to Paradise'.
1993 June
First hometown gig in two years held appropriately enough at 'King Arthur's
Court' to celebrate the band's eighth birthday and the release of 'Madness'.
1993 November
Galahad record an old Twelfth Night track 'The Ceiling Speaks' for 'Mannerisms',
a tribute album for Twelfth Night singer Geoff Mann, who sadly died
earlier in the year.
1994 Spring
Polish cassette versions of 'Nothing Is Written' and 'In A Moment of
Complete Madness' released in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and
Hungary.
1994 September
'Mannerisms' finally released.
1994 November
Galahad record an old 'Genesis' track 'The Chamber of 32 Doors' from
the Genesis album 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' for a Genesis tribute
album. The band contribute 'Suffering In Silence' for a CD-Rom to be
given away with a new national Computer magazine 'CD-Rom User'.
1995 February
'Galahad Acoustic Quintet', a side project instigated by Stu and featuring
ex-Galahad keyboard player Mark Andrews as well as Spencer, Roy and
Neil and Sarah Quilter, an old school friend of Stu's releases album
'Not All There'.
1995 April
Galahad record live concert at Herringthorpe Leisure Centre, Rotherham
for a live album to be released in early 1996.
1995 May
Genesis tribute album 'The River of Constant Change' finally released
on Italian label Mellow Records featuring Galahad's version of 'The
Chamber of 32 Doors'.
1995 June/Sept
'Sleepers' finally released in Japan & SE
Asia in June, then in UK & Europe in September, as well as Polish cassette
versions of 'Sleepers' and 'Not All There' released.
1995 Summer
Galahad release 'Other Crimes and Misdemeanours II' as an exclusive
fan club cassette containing previously unreleased material plus better
quality versions of tracks which had already appeared on the original
'Other Crimes' cassette.
1995 September
Galahad play several European Dates in Germany, Holland and Italy to
promote Sleepers.
1996 April/May
Galahad record an old Camel track 'Lady Fantasy' from the Camel album
'Mirage' for a tribute album to be released on Mellow Records later
in the year.
1996 June
Galahad release their first proper live album on CD 'Classic
Rock Live' in conjunction with the Rotherham based Classic Rock
Society. Galahad also embark on a whistle stop tour of Holland to promote
the album. Sadly, Karl leaves the band for personal reasons and the
quest for a replacement keyboard player begins.
1996 July
Polish Cassette version of 'Classic Rock Live' released. Camel tribute
album 'Harbour of Joy' released, including Galahad re-working of 'Lady
Fantasy'.
1996 August
Galahad official Web site 'Room 801' finally up and running on the Internet.
1996 September
Japanese version of 'Classic Rock Live' released on Marquee Records.
1997 March
'Decade', a compilation of Galahad tracks taken from the first three
studio albums, released on German label 'Bluestone Records' in Germany,
Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Dean Baker joins the band on Keyboards
after a long search for a suitable replacement for Karl.
1997 April
'There Must Be a Way' featured on a German promotional compilation of
Progressive bands to promote the bands and the distributor.
1997 July
'Other Crimes & Misdemeanours II' goes out on
general release in re-mastered form on CD for the first time. It was
previously only available on cassette to fan club members. Galahad play
their first proper gig for over a year at the Bude Surf and Rock Festival,
headlined by Terrorvision, to a very favourable reception. Karl guests
on keyboards.
1997 August
Recording commences on the band's fifth studio album and ninth album
overall, at Room with a View studios. The first album featuring Dean
Baker on keyboards.
1998 January
New album 'Following Ghosts' finally
finished and eventually released in June.
1999 April/June
Galahad play several European dates to promote 'Following Ghosts' and
then start work on their new album 'Year Zero'
[though it would be 2002 before this album is released]. Galahad also
contribute an epic 10-minute track 'The Pleasure House' for a compilation/concept
album which is released on the Dutch label Labrador Records.
2000 Summer/Autumn
Galahad busy in the studio writing and rehearsing new material for 'Year
Zero'.
2000 December
Galahad play their first gig in over a year at Mister Smiths in Bournemouth
as part of a belated 15th anniversary celebration. The band also preview
new material from 'Year Zero' for the first time.
2001 September
'Other Crimes & Misdemeanours III' officially
released. Recording continues on 'Year Zero'.
2002 March
'Year Zero' is completed and scheduled for
release later in the year. Neil Pepper leaves the band. Promotional
gigs in Holland and Belgium follow, with 18-year-old Peter Wallbridge
taking over on bass.
2002 April
Revamped Room 801 (the official Galahad website) is launched.
2002 Summer
'Year Zero' promotional gigs in the UK.
2002 September
'Year Zero' is officially released to universal critical acclaim.
2003 Spring/Summer
Live dates on the Continent and in the UK to promote 'Year Zero' continue.
2004 Spring
Plans for the next studio album crystallise.
2004 July
Mike Kneller replaces Pete Wallbridge on bass.
