History
|
|
1980 - 1982
Stu worked with two other musicians in a school band which recorded
several demos. They were known as 'The Band with no Name'
The other two members were:
Steve Robinson - Drums/Bass Guitar
David Younger - Guitar
Songs recorded were:
Wasting Away
From Jude to Revelation (Quite proggy but very basic)
Down in Old Ale House (A rather corny folk song with a traditional
tune)
They recorded several other songs of which no copies are left, the
titles are unknown.
Around 1982
Stu guested on a couple of gigs with a well known local folk band
called 'Cottage Industry' with whom he sang 'Down in Old
Ale House'.
1982 - 1985
Stu joined a local NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) band
called 'Sidewinder'. They played a few originals plus a host
of covers by bands of the time such as: Vandenberg (Adrian Vandenberg's
band), Dio, Ratt, Pat Travers Band, Black Sabbath,Y&T, Gary
Moore, Thin Lizzy, Michael Schenker, The Scorpions.
They played a few gigs here and there even supporting Dumpy's Rusty
Nuts at one point (who were quite big on the Pub/Biker Rock circuit
at the time).
Other band members were:
Andy Tucker - Guitar
Martin Tucker - Guitar
Eddie Evans - Bass
Fred Beale - Drums
Tracks Stu remembers them playing were:
Dio - Stand up and Shout
Gary Moore - Murder in the Skies
Y&T - Forever=20
Pat Travers - Statesboro Blues (although this is a standard
we played it similar to his style)
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
Vandenberg - Don't stop the Train (or something similar)
Michael Schenker - Armed & Ready
Thin Lizzy - Rosalee/ Whisky in the Jar
Ratt - Something from an album called 'Out of the Cellar'.
Scorpions - Blackout
Then in June 1985 Stu auditioned for Galahad and the rest,
as they say, is history.
