Gala-Gigs...and Roy's Birthday!     9 March 2010

A reminder that this coming weekend, March 14, Galahad are co-headlining the Sunday of the Winter's End festival in Stroud UK. For more information, including tickets, visit the Winter's End site.

Also, mark your calendars for the following Sunday, March 21. Galahad will play a local gig at the Thomas Tripp in Christchurch. That, in itself, is cause for celebration. But this particular gig just so happens to coincides with Roy's birthday, so be forewarned. Things could get a little messy!!

Galahad Members to Play With Twelfth Night!     9 March 2010

ROY KEYWORTH and DEAN BAKER will play with the legendary Twelfth Night on some live dates in the UK in April and May!

For more information visit the Twelfth Night site.

Galahad's 25th Anniversary Extravaganza!     9 March 2010

A missive from STU NICHOLSON:

It's time to unfurl the flags out and blow a few trumpets because 2010 is a very special year for Galahad as it marks our 25th anniversary (how many years again!?) and as such there will be a few events organised to celebrate the fact that we have managed to keep it all together for so long ... and without a break ... and still be on talking terms with each other, an achievement in itself!

The highlight of our UK set of gigs will undoubtedly be our 25th anniversary show at Mr Kyps in Poole, Dorset on Saturday 10 July, where we will be playing an extended set of both very old and very new songs plus a few other favourites and will be joined on stage by several 'special' guests whom some of you are bound to recognise depending on how long you have been a Galahad aficionado of course!

Hopefully, there will also be a few merchandise stalls and possibly even some new Galahad music available including a brand new, updated recording of one of our most popular epic songs! We will also be playing a few new tunes that will appear on our next studio album.

As it is a very special occasion for us your support would be greatly appreciated and we hope to see as many fans of Galahad, and indeed fans of good original progressive/rock/live music as possible ... and we promise to put on a great show as we also see the gig as a massive 'thank you' to all those of you who have stood by us through all our trials and tribulations over the last 25 years.

Tickets will be priced at a very reasonable 10GBP in advance and 12GBP on the door and will be available directly from the venue at Mr Kyps. Further information about all of Galahad’s activities in 2010 will be given in the next few months as when details are finalised.

Cheers, GALAHAD

We would like to wish Lee all the best with his future projects.

More news regarding a permanent replacement in due course.

GALAHAD

GALAHAD Release Remastered 'Other Crimes and Misdemeanours II and III' Special Edition     28 June 2009

GALAHAD are proud to announce the re-release of 'Other Crimes and Misdemeanours II and III' as a very smart re-mastered limited edition double CD digipak.

This latest re-issue from our friends at OSKAR Productions includes approximately 40 minutes of additional music from the archives and has been beautifully packaged to appeal to all fans of progressive rock as well as diehard completists.

CD1 contains 'Other Crimes and Misdemeanours II' (GHCD5 1991) plus a previously unreleased twenty-three minute medley used to accompany a Guy Fawkes Night firework display in Ringwood, Hampshire, England on the 5th November 1990, followed by an instrumental version of 'Lady Messiah' from the same concert.

CD2 contains 'Other Crimes and Misdemeanours III' (GHCD7 2001) plus a nine minute song 'The Pleasure House' which was originally included on a Dutch multi-band concept album 'The Reading Room' back in 2000.

The album is available directly from Galahad (e-mail: band@galahadonline.com) or from OSKAR Productions.

Stuart Interviewed by Classic Rock Magazine!     15 March 2009

NEWSFLASH! GalaVocalist Stuart Nicholson tells us that Classic Rock Magazine interviewed him for possible inclusion in an upcoming Prog special released at the end of March. Stuart says the main focus of the Prog special is 'the big boys' (Pink Floyd, et al). But he's liable to make an appearance somewhere within its pages. At the very least, all GalaFans should buy the issue because, according to Stuart, if it sells well Classic Rock plans to release the Prog special nationally on a quarterly basis. So...Prog fans unite! Let's let Classic Rock know we're out here!

Galahad Goes Digital     14 October 2008

As all GalaFans know, Empires Never Last is already available for digital download on iTunes.

But what fans don't know is that Galahad is working to put their complete back catalogue -- along with Lee? last Album Idle Noise -- on iTunes, too. Stu promises it won't be long before Galahad goes totally digital!

Oskar Re-releases Remastered Classic Rock Live     21 April 2008

Following on from their extremely successful clutch of gigs in Poland in April 2008, Galahad have now re-released their Classic Rock Live album which was originally recorded in 1995 and released in conjunction with the Rotherham based Classic Rock Society in 1996.

The new version has been re-mastered and released by Polish-based Oskar Productions and also includes a bonus official bootleg CD containing a Galahad concert recorded at Mister Smiths in Bournemouth, England on 28 October 1994. Thus, the new version of the album has the cunningly subtle different new title of Two Classic Rock Lives and comes in the form of a particularly smart-looking two-CD digipack.

Two Classic Rock Lives is available now either directly from Galahad or from Oskar Productions. Meanwhile, Nothing Is Written and Following Ghosts have also recently been re-mastered and re-released in conjunction with Oskar Productions as part of an ongoing programme to spruce up and re-release the entire Galahad back catalogue which will also contain the odd unreleased bonus track or two taken from the extensive Galahad live archive.

Other albums due to be re-released at some time in the near future include the Other Crimes & Misdemeanours series of albums plus In A Moment of Complete Madness complete with yet more (!) extra live tracks.

It also looks likely that a Live album taken from the recent Polish gigs will also be released as well as the Galahad Live at ROSfest set which is being mastered at the moment! So, as always, there's plenty going on in Galaland.

Meanwhile, the band are working on new material for their next album following on from the well accepted and critically acclaimed Empires Never Last album which deservedly and unexpectedly won Best Album of the Year award at the recent Classic Rock Society awards.

To order these fine albums, see our Merchandise page. Do it. Now.

Bassist Lee Abraham Releases Pop Album     22 January 2008

Galahad's Lee Releases Pop Album

Galahad bass player Lee Abraham has released a new pop album he recorded with drummer Steve Kingman. Lee had this to say:

"Hi All

I have finally taken delivery of copies of the pop album I have been working on for the last year or so. I don't usually write this kind of music and it was really fun to do. Karl Groom recorded and engineered the drums for us at Thin Ice studios, so impressed was I when I recorded there with him with Galahad.

Just as a bit of background, the guy I have done it with is the drummer from a covers band I was in a few years ago. Back in winter 2006 I asked him if he liked the idea of writing some originals. He had written a bunch of songs and I was toying with "straight ahead" writing so we got together and this is the result! We have called the CD Idle Noise. We didn't actually write any songs together but we did input ideas into each others arrangements as we recorded. I mixed and mastered the whole album.

Anyway, enough of my waffling, if you would like a copy, can I please ask for a few pounds mainly to cover packing and shipping etc (£5 sterling - send me an mail: leejabraham@hotmail.com) That would be great!

Lee"

Empires Wins CRS Album of 2007!     22 January 2008

Galahad have won "Album of 2007" at the Classic Rock Society Awards which were held just outside Rotherham on 12 Jan. The award was presented by John Wetton and recieved by Stu and Lee.

The band are honoured to win and thank all the fans who voted for Empires Never Last. All the hard work paid off!

Thanks also to Karl Groom for his wonderful production, Paul "VitaminP" for the fantastic artwork and everyone at the CRS for their hard work and dedication. Well done too to all the other winners and nominees!

Lengthy Interview With Stuart Nicholson Now Available!     4 January 2008

All will come to he who waits, eh? The long-promised, exclusive interview with Stuart is finally available! Be forewarned: It's a long one. You can find it on Bill Murphy's MySpace page. Enjoy!

Stuart's Mini-Review of pROCKfest in Germany     5 December 2007

It was a very friendly and responsive atmosphere. All the songs got great reactions especially I Could Be God. We bumped in to a lot of old friends and made quite a few new ones. The venue was very unusual, in the middle of the countryside and it even looked like an old farm house but inside it was a great little venue! Everyone including the organisers, staff and other bands were all very friendly/ Special thanks to Udo who put on the festival. Lin did very well on merchandise even though a lot of people obviously already knew the songs as they were singing along which always makes you feel good. All in all it was great fun and a very worthwhile experience, hopefully we?l return one day.

Following Ghosts Re-Mastered, Re-Issued...Classic Rock Live Soon to Follow!     31 October 2007

This just in from Stuart: "Oskar Productions in Poland have just re-mastered and re-released Following Ghosts, which was originally released in 1998 on our own Avalon label through Voiceprint. Their website is: Oscar Productions. Oskar also plans to re-release our live album Classic Rock Live from 1995 which will contain an additional live gig recording which was made at Mister Smiths in Bournemouth, England on 28 October 1994 to form a special 2CD set. The Smiths set has not been tampered with one jot but has been sharpened up a bit using the wonders of modern mastering technology, trouble is you can also hear the mistakes a lot clearer, but it is a gem of a recording from that time and considering it? come straight off the desk with no missing involved it? not half bad!!"

Exclusive Interview With Stu Nicholson     18 October 2007

It's one thing to read reviews. It's another to read brief interviews, short snippets of words here and there. It's quite something else entirely to read an in-depth interview with someone, transcribed virtually as-is, and posted in all its glory. If you've been asking your mates 'Hey, I wonder what Galahad has been up to lately?' now's your chance to find out. This weekend -- 21 October, 2007 -- Galahad vocalist Stuart Nicholson will face what ProgPower USA organizer Glenn Harveston calls the 'Mike Wallace of the prog/power scene' -- an interview with Bill Murphy, the official band interviewer for ProgPower USA VII, ProgPower USA VIII, and next year's ProgPowerUSA IX.

RoSfest 2007     Saturday 28 April 2007

By all accounts, Galahad's set at the internationally-known RoSfest music fest was very well received, indeed. It was the first trip to the U.S. for Galahad, but it (hopefully) won't be their last. More details coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy these photos taken the night of the show.

The show goes on     19 September 2006 updated 28 September

Galahad drummer Spencer Luckman will be rounding off 2006 with a week on the road around Europe as the band take in a short tour in support of a new DVD release "Resonance - Live in Poland". It's a tour Spencer is extremely glad to be on.

In April this year Spencer was taken ill after collapsing; Doctors initially thought he may have Multiple Scoliosis or Epilepsy. These conditions were ruled out and Spencer was confirmed as suffering from a brain tumour which needed immediate removal. His operation was delayed slightly to allow him time to travel to Poland to play in Katowice. Galahad's performance supporting Pendragon is to be released shortly on DVD.

Upon returning to the UK Spencer underwent surgery (while fully awake!) in early June to remove the tumour and he required a short amount of physiotherapy to assist him in learning to walk again. The tumour was confirmed as cancerous and Spencer then underwent 6 weeks of radio therapy.

In July Galahad recommenced rehearsals to allow Spencer to get the feel for drumming again. Since then he has made steady progress behind the kit and is almost back to full strength. Spencer commented "having suffered paralysis in my left side after the operation, I had to relearn how to play the drums and relearn all the Galahad songs, it's not been easy!" Preparation for the tour continues and the band are now putting the finishing touches to the live set with their first date being at the Classic Rock Society in Rotherham on Saturday 11 November.

Lead vocalist Stu Nichcolson added "Spencer has gone through something which is unimaginable for the rest of us, he's done really well to come back from it like this. We can't wait to get out on the road, and we're only too glad that Spencer is with us".

Spencer and the band would like to thank all of the medical staff at Southampton General and Poole Hospitals involved in Spencer's case, as well as our fans across the globe for their support during this testing time, but as we always say:

It's only a matter of going!

GALAHAD

Two Gigs & A Cancellation     16 May 2006 updated 16 May

The good news, straight from Stuart: "the big good news is that we are playing in Poland at Wyspianski theatre in Katowice on Moday 22 May in Katowice with Pendragon and Mind Key."

"We have also organised a show at Rotherham with "The Classic Rock Society" on Saturday 11 November which will part of the ENL and Galahad 21 tour. The venue will probably be the Oakwood Centre in Rotherham. The other bands supporting will be Frost and The Plackband with whom we played in Belgium a few years ago."

And the bad news: "due to some unavoidable circumstances, we are unable to play the Cartoon gig in Croydon on June 2nd. We very much hope that the gig will go ahead at a later date. we WILL however be doing a small tour in November (by which time, Empires Never Last will have been released). All of us appologise for the short notice we have given for the cancellation and are saddened at not being able to perform in Croydon. We hope that you will be able to come along to see us play live very soon."

GALAHAD

Album Almost Finished!     16 May 2006 updated 16 May

The new album is almost finished! According to vocalist extraordinaire Stuart Nicholson, the mixing is almost complete with just few adjustments to do. Stu says this album will be heavier than any previous Galahad album and will surely surprise the heck out of all listeners.

GALAHAD

Gig at The Spirit of 66     15 April 2006 updated 15 April

Confirmed! Galahad has just been confirmed to play at The Spirit of 66 in Verviers, Belgium on Sunday 19 November.

We are also organising a?few other dates in Europe around it. We'll keep you posted with any developments.

GALAHAD

Gig at the Cartoon     16 Jan 2006 updated 16 Jan

Hiyall!

The Beast that is Galahad has finally awoken from it's Winter slumber with a few snippets of news:

Galahad will be playing their first gig (unless they sneek one in beforehand!!) with Lee Abraham, the new Bass player on Friday 2 June 2006 at the Cartoon in Croydon along with Also Eden as special guests, with whom Galahad played at the rather wonderful Summer's End Festival in September 2005.

We will, of course, give further updates as and when details are available. We do know, however, that tickets prices will be ?7 on the door, not bad for two great bands providing some classic Prog/Rock entertainment! Surprisingly, it will be Galahad's first gig in the London area for several years!!

The band will be playing pretty much all of the new up and coming album 'Empires Never Last', recording of which is going very well at Thin Ice Studios with Karl Groom at the helm taking on recording/engineering duties! No doubt the band will throw in a few 'oldies'as well...as this is the bands 21st year together! GALAHAD finally come of age!!!

Keep Rockin'

GALAHAD

Lee Abraham, come on down!     25 Nov 2005 updated 27 Nov

Well, it didn't take long — Galahad has a new bass player in the form of 31-year-old Southampton-based Lee Abraham. Lee has a wealth of experience as a musician in his own right, including CD releases.

We'll be putting up a full bio here on the site in due course, but in the meantime read more about Lee here and at his blog: http://edgeoflifemusic.blogspot.com.

Mike Kneller leaves Galahad     05 Nov 2005

The band and bass player Mike Kneller have parted ways, Stu N reports.

The amicable split comes at a time when work on Empires Never Last reaches a critical phase, with Stu, Dean, Roy and Spencer due back at Thin Ice Studios with Karl Groom later next week.

So the band are urgently seeking a fresh face to take up 4-string duties and make an immediate mark on the new album! Naturally, enthusiasm, commitment and an open-minded attitude are pre-requisites. Please contact if you think you fit the bill, or know anyone who might!

Sleepers re-released     15 Oct 2005

It's been out of print for a while, but now it's back —

GALAHAD are pleased to announce that their 1995 'Sleepers' album has now been re-issued and is available again for the first time in a couple of years.

The 'new' version also includes an extra 'hidden' track, 'Suffering In Silence', which was previously only available on the Japanese version of Sleepers released by Canyon International in 1995.

This version of 'Suffering In Silence' is a different recording to that which appeared on the 'Other Crimes & Misdemeanours II ' album in 1997.

The re-pressed version of Sleepers does, however, come with original artwork and booklet.

Please e-mail if you are interested in a review copy or would like to purchase copies of this classic Mid-Nineties Progressive Rock album featuring the epic title track as well as the beautiful...and long...'Amaranth'.

All orders must be made directly to the band
[at or via the band website, priced at £10 per copy, inclusive of P&P within the UK. For international orders, please e-mail for a P&P quote.]

In the mean time the band are making slow but sure progress on their next album 'Empires Never Last' .

Keep Rockin in the Free World!!

Update     28 Jun 2005

So ProgSfest 2005 got cancelled, but the proverbial silver lining appeared in the form of an invite to play at the prestigious Progeny bash at the Astoria in London in November. Info on this and other new gigs are on the Live Dates page.

Clive Nolan's Thin Ice Studios hosted the band recently when Spencer started to lay down the drum tracks for Empires Never Last, aided and abetted by the Arena man himself. Dean reports that the resultant sound was simply "awesome". Recording on the new album continues at Stu Nicholson's place.

And Stu featured featured prominently in an article on the modern day prog scene that appeared in one of the UK's national newspapers, The Guardian, a short time back. Other contributors included Roine Stolt and Bill Bruford. An online version is available here:

Stu invited to ProgAID single recording     23 Jan 2005

Stu Nicholson is to join a host of other prog luminaries in South Wales next weekend to record a charity single Band Aid-style for the Tsunami victims. Just check out the list of prog-gods who've already committed themselves to the ProgAID project in this recently released statement:

The Prog Rock community coming together to help where we can!

ProgAID was set-up in the wake of the terrible earthquake and Tsunami disaster that tragically struck on the 26th December 2004. The sheer destruction and loss of human life was of a scale that shook the world.

We considered what the Progressive Rock community could do, even in a small way, to help alleviate some of the suffering endured, and help towards the rebuilding of lives and communities.

We have therefore decided to co-ordinate the recording of a CD single to help raise as much money as possible for those that need it. The song, titled 'All Around The World', will be recorded on the 29th and 30th January 2005, and since the decision was made, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of so many great musicians who have agreed to give their time to appear on the single. The list grows daily and currently includes:

Neal Morse
Roine Stolt - The Flower Kings
Anthony Phillips
Martin Orford - IQ
Pete Nicholls - IQ
John Jowitt - IQ
Alan Reed - Pallas
Nick Barrett - Pendragon
Clive Nolan - Arena / Pendragon
Mick Pointer - Arena
John Mitchell - Arena / The Urbane

Arjen Lucassen - Ayreon
Oliver Wakeman - Oliver Wakeman Band

Bryan Josh - Mostly Autumn
Steve Gee - Landmarq
Tracy Hitchings - Landmarq
Dave Wagstaff - Landmarq
Bruce Soord - Pineapple Thief
Stu Nicholson - Galahad
Magenta
Steve Babb - Glass Hammer
Daniel Gildenlow - Pain Of Salvation

Regular updates, including the amount of money raised, will be posted at the ProgAID web site at www.ProgAID.com, so please visit for the latest news. The full list of musicians participating on the single will also be listed within the "Who's Who" section of this site.

We thank you for supporting this release and please spread this news to as many people as possible!

'All Around The World' - The official ProgAID single

Update     03 Nov 2004 updated 06 Nov

With a set made up mainly of thrusting new material from the forthcoming studio album, Galahad went down a storm at last weekend's ProgSfest in Chippenham UK. On the back of this performance, they've already been invited to next's years bash, provisionally scheduled for the weekend of 15 / 16 Oct 2005.

The gig also marked an impressive debut for new bassist Mike Kneller.

Stu Nicholson reports that Empires Never Last has been chosen as the title for the next album, and the band's next live gig on Sun 05 Dec in Bournemouth UK will be pay-on-the-door only. More details here: [gigs].

Room 801 seeks new Webmaster!     13 Aug 2004

Sadly, I (Stu Cormie) have to announce that I'm relinquishing my post as Room 801's webmaster due to overwhelming domestic and business commitments.

It's been a fun two-and-a-half years, I have to say, and it's brought me into contact with some great people all over the planet.

But now it's time for someone new to take the baton....and how about you? An affinity with the international prog scene is more important than technical skills. By design, this site is almost entirely HTML, so you don't need to be a wizard to keep it up to date. (Though of course wizards are more than welcome to apply!). You don't even need to be in the UK, of course.

Please e-mail me in the first instance at room801@servicetree.co.uk if you're interested. Thanks.

Dean B to play at Hawkwind Tribute Night     13 Aug 2004

Dean B e-mailed to say he's appearing in a Hawkwind Tribute Night at the Central Bar, Ashley Cross, Poole UK on Saturday August 14 (ie, tomorrow night!). He's performing in a band called Orgone Accumulator made up from members of other local bands. This is a charity event in aid of the British Heart Foundation, and in particular is a tribute to Bob Calvert.

Galahad has new bass player!    04 Jul 2004

Pete Wallbridge and the band have parted company, Stu Nicholson has announced. Stu reports:

Pete is no longer a part of Galahad due to a number of reasons which we will not dwell upon. It was always a possibility that he wouldn't be in it for the long term being so young and errr... unpredictable!

But a replacement is already in situ, in the form of Scots-born Mike Kneller. Says Stu:

Now we are looking forward to the future and are pleased to announce that Mike Kneller, whom we have known for a while, has taken over Bass Guitar duties. Mike has had a lot of experience in playing, writing and recording over the years plus and perhaps more importantly he like the odd tipple so he fits in just fine! He has also already made a very positive contribution during the last few band rehearsal sessions towards the writing of new material for the next album for which recording should commence shortly.

So there you go. The band now have everything in place to move forward, and Room 801 extends its best wishes to Mike for his future in the band. Mike's profile can be viewed here.

South Coast is centre of prog universe — official!    03 Jul 2004

Galahad, IQ, Jadis and Big Big Train and others are part of the important "Coastprog" scene based on the English South Coast in and around Bournemouth, according to Silhobbit.com. And as part of its promotion of this hotbed of prog activity, Silhobbit has recently launched a "Coastprog Downloads Special" here where you can download MP3s from each of the featured acts and vote for your favourite.

Galahad's contribution is Ever the Optimist from Year Zero. Why not support the band by visiting the page and casting your vote accordingly? ;-)

Ooh er missus ...     27 Mar 2004

Prog-rock luminaries from around the UK joined Stu Nicholson on his sofa recently to take part in SilHobbit.com's "mass debate" on GM crops. [A direct link is here.] His 3-seater has never been the same since....

One night in Bangkok ...     07 Mar 2004

Roy Keyworth is flying half way round the world to meet up with Galahad's erstwhile bass player Tim Ashton in Thailand next week, prior to the pair of them moving on to spend some time in Japan, where Tim now lives.

If all goes to plan, they'll meet up not at 10 o'clock, not at 11 o'clock, but at noon at the Hard Rock Cafe Bangkok on Tuesday.

What they plan to do during the rest of their stay in the city has not yet been made clear.

More new material     22 Feb 2004

Stu Nicholson reports that two more new songs — This Life Could Be My Last and Termination — have been completed for the next record.

Stu reckons the band have got an album's worth of material ready to commit to hard drive; it's just a question now of finding a studio that will not only provide the right environment for everyone to work in but will also come with a sympathetic engineer.

As with Year Zero and Following Ghosts, the band intend to produce this next album themselves.

Chat sessions every Sunday at 20:00 GMT / UTC     11 Jan 2004

Room 801 is pleased to announce that starting next Sunday (January 18), we're going to be hosting regular weekly sessions in our Chatroom, from 20:00 GMT / UTC onwards.

Please do join us, wherever on the planet you happen to be, and converse on any subject under the sun with like-minded souls! Using our Chatroom is easy and quick — and no registration or anything like that is required. Hope to see you there next week!

Galahad perform at private gig     11 Jan 2004

Stu Nicholson gracefully reaches 40 later this week and to "celebrate" the event he's having a large bash near his home for friends, family and the odd hanger-on. Galahad will briefly reconvene to perform a short set to mark the occasion. We'll post tittle-tattle and photos later in the month.

Helmond gig off     01 Sep 2003

The show that was supposed to be happening at the Rockpodium Plato in Helmond, The Netherlands, on October 3 is unfortunately not now going ahead. Stu Nicholson issued the following Press Statement earlier today to explain why:

Hi Everyone,

It is with great regret that, due to reasons beyond the control of Galahad the proposed gig on Friday 3 Oct at the Plato Poppodium in Helmond, Netherlands will not now be taking place.

Reasons are sketchy but there always seemed to be a language/communication problem between us and
the venue's promoter leading to misunderstanding between the band and the venue.

Things came to a head when we noticed another band advertised for the date that we were under the impression we were playing! This all happened despite some fans calling the venue about the gig and being given a pretty ambiguous and unconvincing response...which set the alarm bells ringing at Galahad central!

The band is obviously very disappointed at not playing and at the fact that this messy situation arose in the first place. Thnakfully it doesn't happen very often and has never happened in Europe before.Hopefully it won't happen again!

We are also very sorry to have inconvenienced all those who would have been coming to the gig.

However, the Prog Resiste festival at Verviers in Belgium on Saturday is still very much on and we hope to see you there.BUT Galahad will be going on quite early at 6 o'clock in the evening so get there in good time!

That's all for now

Take care

Stu Galahad

Mister Smiths tickets — last chance!     30 Jul 2003

If you haven't already bought your tickets for the Mister Smiths gig on Saturday August 9, you need to get your skates on! Realistically, you've only got until the weekend to get your order in for there still to be time to get the tickets posted back out to you.

And if you're thinking of buying them on the night instead — please think again!! Last year's bash there was a sell-out, and people were getting turned away in tears.

This is another great opportunity to hear some of the new songs the band have been working on of late. Purchase details are here.

Stu N to DJ again next year     30 Jul 2003

Following a well-received stint at Bournemouth radio station Rock 24-7 recently (see news item below), Stu has been invited back to co-host another series of shows early in the New Year.

Rock 24-7 fires up again for four weeks on 106.6FM on Friday January 16. Stu will co-host a three hour show this time round, each Wednesday between 8pm and 11pm. To get a feel for what'll get played, take a look at this excellent setlist from the first batch of programmes.

Band wind up again     19 Jul 2003

The lads reconvene tomorrow (July 20) after a summer break to start getting themselves ready for the Mister Smiths gig on Saturday, August 9, and also to continue with the very promising work done so far towards the next studio album.

Stu N has been busy, of course, with his series of radio shows (see below), whilst young Pete has been busking his way round Europe armed with a fretless bass!

Stu N to host prog-rock radio show     22 Jun 2003

This just in from Stu Nicholson:

Hi Ya all,

Just to let you know that a new community Rock radio station called Rock 24-7 will commence transmitting from Bournemouth on Wed 25 June for 4 weeks on a temporary licence.

The very good news is that it will be incorporating a nightly show from Monday to Thursday 9 -10pm dedicated exclusively to Progressive Rock ...a first for Bournemouth and probably the UK, the way things are with very limited Rock radio in the UK these days!! So at last an outlet to promote Prog old and new!!

What's more I will be co presenting the show with another prog aficionado, Tony Warren, who is very experienced DJ, much more so than I (in fact I am a complete virgin DJ!!) and very well versed in all things Prog. So if you are local, do please listen in. Listeners will also be able to make requests via email or phone, which will hopefully be played on future programmes.

Should be an interesting few weeks. Feel free to email any feed back that you have either to here, the radio station or even our web site as we'd be interested to hear what you think of it!!

Also, don't forget the Mister Smiths gig on Sat 9 August, tickets are now available directly from the band.

Well, tis all for now.

Take care

Stu Galahad

There's a Press Release from the station here, which includes broadcast details and its web address. Good luck Stu!!

Gig at Mister Smiths in August     04 Jun 2003

Galahad have been invited to play a local gig at Mister Smiths (Bournemouth UK) on Saturday, August 9, as part of the venue's 15th birthday celebrations. (The club opened its doors for the first time on 8/8/88!)

Galahad are one of the few acts who have been associated with Mister Smiths right throughout its life.

Ticketing details will be announced shortly. The venue has a website (which includes directions) at www.mistersmiths.com.

Galahad to appear in comic strip?     04 Jun 2003

Out of the blue, Galahad have received a request from FYRE Productions of New York State, USA, to make a guest appearance in one of their comic strips!

It's not clear yet what form the lads's contribution will take (or even what FYRE actually produce!), but the outfit is apparently committed to "bringing music alive in a new way" ...

Rumours that the band are to feature in an A-Team style spoof, in which they're commissioned by greying prog-rock fans to undertake dangerous covert operations to route out evil within the British music industry (assassinating Will Young, gagging Mel B, giving Simon Cowell a good slap, that kind of thing) remain unconfirmed. If nothing else, there's no one in the band who remotely resembles Mr T. Perhaps.

Further details as soon as we get 'em!

Galahad fares well in DPRPoll 2002     03 Apr 2003

Galahad and last year's studio release Year Zero have achieved significant and credible positions in a number of "Best of" lists in the Dutch Progressive Rock Page's DPRPoll 2002.

In results otherwise dominated by Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings and Dream Theater, Year Zero came in 15th in the "Best Album" category — out of more than 300 albums nominated by DPRP readers! In the "Best Artwork" list, YZ popped up in a commendable 10th place, ahead of mega-budget rivals such as Vapor Trails from Rush and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence from Dream Theater.

Perhaps most surprising of all was the band's 19th position in the "Best Live Band" category, ahead of many illustrious names who had far greater live exposure in 2002, particularly on the Continent.

Members of the DPRP team had their own poll too. Rob Michel voted Hindsight 2 — A very clever guy indeed as his favourite track of the year (and this song got a couple of nominations too in the public "Best Track" list). Rob also put Year Zero in 4th place in his top 10 albums of the year list. Nigel Camilleri thought the album had the best artwork of all the releases of 2002.

Galahad did not make an appearance in the "Best Newcomer 2002" category ;-)

All-in-all, a highly satisfactory outcome when you consider the resources Galahad have to operate with. Congratulations go from Room 801 to Stu, Roy, Dean, Spence and Pete, and a thank-you to all those who took the trouble to include the band in some way in their poll returns.

Galahad back in studio     13 Feb 2003 updated 15 Feb

On Friday week (February 21), Galahad venture into a recording studio to being work laying down tracks for the follow-up to Year Zero. A substantial amount of new material (almost 40 minutes' worth) has already been written.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of this news is the speed with which the band have kicked off their preparations for the next album, given that the gap between Galahad albums can usually be measured in terms of years, not mere months! :-) Things are looking up.

Dutch festival appearance confirmed    13 Feb 2003 updated 03 & 09 Mar

Galahad will be popping across the Channel later in the year to appear at the "Progfever" Festival at the Boerderij venue in Zoetermeer near Rotterdam on Sunday May 18. Other acts on the bill are German bands Everon and Sylvan. Please contact the venue for tickets, or you can buy them online here (Dutch language site).

As with the Mr Kyp's gig [gigs], the band plan to use the occasion to showcase some of the new material they've been writing recently.

Mr Kyp's gig tickets now available     13 Feb 2003 updated 15 Feb

Advance tickets are now on sale at £6 for the Mr Kyp's gig on Saturday, May 3 [gigs]. Just follow the link for details.

Stu N reports that the band intends to premiere one or two of the new songs they've been working on of late at this event. There's also the possibility of an appearance by a "very special guest".

Vote in the ProgressiveWorld.net poll     29 Jan 2003

ProgressiveWorld.net has started its own annual prog-rock poll here. It's in a similar vein to the readers' poll run by the DPRP, which we reported on earlier in the month here. Likewise, any Galahad-related votes would be more than welcome! ProgressiveWorld's 2002 poll remains open until February 9.

Poles polled in Polish polls     23 Jan 2003

Listeners of yet another Polish radio show have voted Year Zero one of their "best albums of 2002". A poll open to the listeners of the Night of Musical Landscapes programme, which goes out every Friday night on national Radio 3, has YZ in 14th out of 30 places, ahead of efforts by King Crimson, Spock's Beard and Marillion.

Recently, the 2002 listeners' poll from the MLWZ show on Radio Alfa Krakow, Poland, put YZ in sixth place [trivia].

Year Zero rated 'one of best new albums of 2002'     04 Jan 2003

Respected UK music magazine Record Collector has named Year Zero as one of the "best new albums of 2002" in its end-of-year review in the January 2003 (#281) edition. Sandwiched (alphabetically) 'twixt Mr Gabriel's Up and Brainwashed by George Harrison, the album's entry in the list reads:

An imaginative millenial take on n**-prog [don't want to use the n-word here — makes Stu N twitch ;-) ], bringing together ambient textures with hard rock.

Stu is naturally well chuffed with the accolade, and why not, when you consider what the band's achieved with the recording with the budget at its disposal. Top bombing!

Vote in the DPRPoll     04 Jan 2003

The Dutch Progressive Rock Page has opened its annual prog-rock poll for 2002 here. Of course any Galahad-related votes would be more than welcome! Voting can be done at any time throughout January 2003, and there are apparently raffle prizes on offer for submitters of completed poll forms.

Year Zero third in Paperlate poll     04 Jan 2003

The poll to find the "best album of 2002" set up by Dutch prog-rock radio show Paperlate that we mentioned back in December has now closed, with Year Zero being bumped into third place by two entries whose positions are questionable to say the least! Hey ho.... Many thanks to all those who took the trouble to vote. The full results are available to view at http://www.paperlate.net.

Last call for votes in SilhobbitWeb downloads poll     04 Jan 2003

Remember the SilhobbitWeb downloads poll which features Galahad's cover of The Chamber of 32 Doors amongst others? Well, it's closing soon, so if you haven't voted already, you need to get cracking. Your support would be very much appreciated. At the time of writing, Galahad are leading the poll by just a handful of votes, so there's still a chance to make a big difference.

(PS: Wanna see pictures of Stu's sofa? Check out the News page at Silhobbit then.)

Year Zero enters Dutch site's Top 10     12 Dec 2002

This message just in from Markwin Meeuws at the Dutch Progwereld site:

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that your latest album [Year Zero] has entered our Out-Of This World Top 10: an interactive top 10 of the most favourite, new progressive and symphonic rock-albums which have recently been released. See for yourself at www.progwereld.org/wereldsetien.htm.

How does it work? Anyone who pays a visit to our site can put his personal top three of recent albums (no compilation or live-albums) at toptien@progwereld.org. Although the site is in Dutch, you (and your fans) are of course allowed to send in their votes.

Every two weeks an updated Out-Of-This World Top 10 is presented and this will hopefully provide a good insight in to what's 'hot' in the progworld at the moment. Look again, entries from six different countries are in the list! How about globalisation!

Please give notice about this to all your fans around the world. And - most important - place a vote yourself! The next Out-Of-This-World Top 10 will be released on december the 29th.

Year Zero nominated for album of 2002     08 Dec 2002 updated 10 Dec

Dutch prog-rock radio show Paperlate is asking people to vote for the "best album of 2002", and Year Zero is one of the fifteen albums nominated for the award, along with Peter Gabriel's Up, Spock's Beard's Snow and Fish's Fellini Nights.

To vote, simply visit the online poll on the show's website at http://www.paperlate.net; it'll take you less than a minute! Please show your support for the lads and what they do by getting over there and doing the deed!

Update 10 Dec: Paperlate reports that people can actually register multiple votes for an album — one vote per day is permitted. Might sound a little odd, but it's a fact that supporters of at least one other band in the poll have been using the trick to gain an unfair advantage. So — far be it for me to suggest anything untoward, but ... when in Rome, eh ;-) — Stu C

Galahad to be Featured Artist at Delicious Agony     01 Dec 2002 updated 02 & 10 Dec

US-based Internet prog-rock radio station Delicious Agony has Galahad as its Featured Artist on Tuesday, December 10 at 22:00 EDT, repeated on Wednesday, December 11 at 15:00 EDT. (That's 03:00 (!) and 20:00 UTC/GMT respectively, both on the Wednesday.) Year Zero and Following Ghosts will be featured.

All you need to have to listen to the webcasts anywhere on the planet are an Internet connection and a suitable media player such as Winamp. Visit the station's website at http://www.deliciousagony.com to find out more.

Stu Nicholson on the radio     01 Dec 2002 updated 02 Dec

Stu Nicholson is a guest on the Thursday Rock Show on his local radio station Radio Forest FM on Thursday December 12, between 8.00pm and 10.00pm. The station, based in Verwood (Dorset UK), broadcasts on 106.6. Its website has a page showing the station's coverage here.

Another Classic Rock Society gig — in 2003     12 Oct 2002

The boys must have done something right at their recent Classic Rock Society bash, 'cos they've been invited back to perform at the Herringthorpe Leisure Centre (Rotherham, UK) again next year. The date is Saturday, April 19, 2003. Ticketing details to follow.

Mr Kyp's tickets     06 Oct 2002

The bash at Mr Kyp's in Poole UK [gigs] is less than a fortnight away. If you're planning to attend and haven't already put your order in for tickets, you need to get moving! Please allow time for the tickets to be posted out to you — and if you're thinking about leaving it to buy on the door instead ... think again!! The recent Mister Smiths gig for instance was a sell-out, and so some folk arriving there without tickets got turned away in tears [and I should know 'cos I was helping out on the door that night! — Stu C].

Vote for Galahad at SilhobbitWeb (2)     12 Sep 2002

Charlie O'Mara of Silhobbit.com writes:

Thanks for the publicity on the old downloads. Unfortunately, despite your "best" efforts, you still got pipped at the post by those Norwegian Gazpacho boys. Still, 30% isn't a bad result.

Fat Dave's "Awesome Autumn" Downloads has just begun featuring Galahad's own version of the Genesis classic "The Chamber of 32 Doors" so better luck this time. You're up against Fish, Shadowland, John Mitchell (covering Peter Gabriels 'Red Rain') and Dethlehem (who've covered Marillion's 'Lavender').

May the best man win!

A direct link to the Downloads page at Silhobbit.com is here. It's worth checking out the site generally too — there are a couple of Galahad-related bits there at the moment, including a report about what the lads got up to in the summer holidays (!), and Stu's current playlist.

Vote for Galahad at SilhobbitWeb     09 Sep 2002

The current MP3 download poll at SilhobbitWeb is scheduled to close tomorrow (10 Sep).

You may remember that the poll [here] features Galahad's track There Must Be a Way, where it's in competition with songs by Gazpacho, Prog Marley, Moria Falls and The Urbane.

Right now, Galahad need just seven more votes to win! You know what you need to do, if you haven't already!! Fat Dave, who compiled the poll, says, "I'll try to contact the best bands [ie, those that top his series of polls] and promote their music."

Sillhobbit reports that Galahad will generously be included in the next competition too (which starts as soon as the other one ends) — this time with their cover of Genesis' Chamber of 32 Doors from 1995. Again, you know what to do ;-) !

Avalon and Galahad in Record Collector mag feature     05 Sep 2002

The September 2002 edition (#277) of the UK magazine Record Collector includes an article titled "Proud to be Prog":

British indie labels kept the prog-rock flame burning in the 90s, paving the way for a millenial resurgence [!]

Naturally, Avalon Records and Galahad feature significantly (with a few words from Stu N). The magazine's on the shelves now, though we are at the time of writing trying to secure permission to reproduce the article here at Room 801.

Mr Kyp's ticketing arrangements     29 Aug 2002

Advance tickets are now on sale for the Mr Kyp's gig on Saturday, October 19 [gigs]. Just follow the link for all the details.

Stu N reports that there's a lot more space at this venue than Mister Smiths, so as well as hopefully making for a more relaxed environment, the lads will be able to play around a bit with some special effects on the stage!

Whitchurch bits'n'bobs     27 Jul 2002

Whitchurch [gigs] is almost upon us! At the time of writing, a few tickets are still available for the Friday night. Past experience shows it's not wise to assume there's going to be any left for sale on the door, so get in there now if you're still not sorted! You can check the latest situation at the festival office on 01256 895758 (+44 1256 895758 if calling from outside the UK).

Photos of Galahad in action are going to be posted live(ish) to Room 801 shortly after the band complete their set (at approximately 20:00 BST, 19:00 GMT). The link to these pictures will be up on the welcome page.

And finally ... a reminder that Galahad have the privilege of opening the festival, shortly after the doors open at 18:00. Don't miss the boat!

Mister Smiths bits'n'bobs     27 Jul 2002

Two weeks today, Galahad play Mister Smiths in Bournemouth [gigs]. This gig is shaping up to be a cracker. It's going to be in two parts: a 45-minute set featuring Galahad favourites is followed by a short intermission and then — what it's all about — Year Zero in its entirety. And all for just £6 (£7 on the door). Pre-book to avoid disappointment. Doors open 8ish, the band are on at 9.00pm. If you've pre-booked your tickets, you'll be able to pick them up at the door.

Mister Smiths: Got your ticket yet?    01 Jun 2002 updated 03 Jun

The Mister Smiths gig on August 10 [news] [gigs] gets more interesting by the day. A sound recording of the event is confirmed by Dean; he's also talking about a multi-camera video shoot of the proceedings, complete with pyrotechnics! These recordings may eventually see the light of day in a rather interesting form.... Attendance is clearly an imperative for any Galafan!

Vote for Galahad at SilhobbitWeb     20 Apr 2002 updated 01 & 23 May, 21 Jun

NB: The poll will be closing imminently!! Please vote now if you haven't already done so.

More votes are urgently required to reestablish Galahad's lead at the top of SilhobbitWeb's current MP3 download poll!! The page [here] features the band's There Must Be a Way in its entirety, where it's in competition with songs by Gazpacho, Prog Marley, Moria Falls and The Urbane.

Fat Dave, who compiled the page, says, "I'll try to contact the best bands [ie, those that top his series of polls] and promote their music."

Gig at Mister Smiths in August     04 Apr 2002

Galahad are to play a local gig at Mister Smiths (Bournemouth UK) on Saturday, August 10 (the weekend after Whitchurch — see below). Tickets are available from the venue at £6 in advance, £7 on the night. Advance purchase is strongly recommended since numbers are strictly limited. Contact details are at www.mistersmiths.com. It's possible the show will get recorded, and the band will probably play quite a long set including most or perhaps even all of Year Zero. A support act is mooted but subject to confirmation.

Galahad play Whitchurch!     27 Mar 2002 updated 28 Mar

The band are confirmed to make a very welcome return to the Whitchurch Festival weekender (Hampshire UK) in the summer. They'll play on the Friday evening, August 2. Full details, including act lineups, ticketing information, accommodation, directions, etc, are available at the Festival website. There's also a useful summary of what's what up on the Festivals page at New Horizons.

The event will mark the band's first live non-local appearance in the UK for over two years, and with Whitchurch proving to be a prog-rock treat year in, year out, attendance is essential! Other acts scheduled for the Friday are the duo Martin Orford (of IQ and Jadis) & Gary Chandler (of Jadis), and Jump, who went down very well last year apparently. Highlights for Saturday include Francis Dunnery (ex-It Bites) and Haze, with the legendary (it says here!) Focus playing on the Sunday.

Ticket numbers are quite limited this year, so it's imperative to get your order in quick to avoid disappointment! Ordering details are via the Festival link above.

(Our friends on the Continent may be interested to learn that the festival site is just five minutes' walk from Whitchurch rail station ... which is just an hour out from London's Waterloo terminal... which is where Eurostar trains from Paris, Brussels and elsewhere arrive....)

Neil Pepper leaves Galahad     04 Mar 2002 updated 15 Apr

Galahad have announced the departure of bassist Neil Pepper. 18-year-old local lad Peter Wallbridge (whom Stu N describes as "amazing"!) has been rehearsing with the band recently with a view to taking on 4-string duties [actually 5-string in the end! — photo here] for the upcoming Continental gigs. There's no confirmation as yet of Peter's permanent involvement in the Galahad setup.
